Pricing and sourcing premium used cars with confidence

For more than ten years, SVautos has specialised in premium used cars. Owner Sieger and long-time team member Auke manage both purchasing and sales, overseeing a stock of around 35 vehicles. To value trade-ins faster and source more marketable cars, the dealership started working with JP.cars.

From pilot to daily use in weeks

The introduction came through a financing partner who was planning to use JP.cars as well. After a two-month pilot with weekly sessions, the decision was clear. “You get the hang of it within a week,” Auke explains. “It’s very user-friendly.”

The biggest impact was on trade-in valuations. “Within two minutes, we can put a price on the table. That alone made a huge difference and convinced us to keep using the software.”

Trade-in valuations in minutes

SVautos mainly sells German premium brands such as Mercedes, Audi, BMW and Porsche. Trade-ins, however, often include cars outside that segment. “If someone trades in a Kia Picanto, we sell it straight on to traders,” Auke says. “In the past, determining the value took time because it’s not our core market.”

Now, valuations are straightforward. “We enter the license plate and mileage, and within minutes we can make a realistic offer. You can stand behind that price with confidence, because the data is reliable. That also helps in conversations with customers who expect more than the market value.”

Buying more marketable cars

The ETR marketability indicator plays an important role in purchasing decisions. “In the premium segment, the risk of long-standing stock is always there,” Auke explains. “The ETR shows not just what’s for sale, but also what has recently sold. That insight means we now pass on cars we might have bought before.”

The data also reveals opportunities. “We noticed Tesla Model 3 prices dropped significantly. Normally, we would skip them due to simpler specifications. But based on the data, we started buying them and they sell quickly, often at asking price.”

Higher margins, lower stock risk

After six months, the impact is already visible. “We can define our own margins in the software and purchase more strategically,” Auke says. “Margins are improving and stock days are coming down. If you buy based on ETR and leave enough margin, the numbers follow.”

Even seasonally, the difference stood out. “The first quarter is usually weak for us. This year it wasn’t. Other factors play a role, of course, but it’s a very positive signal.”

“We can trust the software blindly. Nine times out of ten, it’s spot on.”
