It’s about making our entire procurement and sales process more effective. As a result, we can respond more swiftly to market changes. That was the deciding factor for us to move forward with JP.cars’ software.
During the pilot we held weekly meetings with JP.cars and refined our knowledge of the software. Together, we defined the framework needed for the data to work for us: our own protocol. JP.cars also prevented us from pricing too much according to our gut feeling, instead allowing the data to have its say.
This is an occupational risk — when you see a desirable car that isn’t selling well, you’re tempted to think: “That price must work, right?”
But if the data indicates that the market value is lower, you have to listen — and avoid being overly emotional. With the data, we can now calculate our prices more accurately and retain margin flexibility when needed.
We use the software to appraise acquisition vehicles quickly. With it we can see where the vehicle stands in the market. Previously we had other channels for that, but JP.cars’ data is far more comprehensive.
The software has data from our entire local market. Moreover, it uses actual sales data, not asking prices of used cars. That sales price is vital to us — it’s the benchmark for our purchase prices. Overall, it’s a fantastic tool that helps us assess the real current purchase value of a vehicle.
Our stock management has become much simpler through the software. Previously, we had to filter and copy financial stock lists in Excel; JP.cars now enables us to do this far more efficiently.
In the reports we can easily see how price trends of specific models evolve within our inventory. The software generates automatic adjusted price proposals based on market activity. That applies not only to vehicles already in stock for some time, but also to newly acquired vehicles whose market value drops due to increased competition. We can anticipate much more quickly, because we see daily which vehicles need adjustment.
Now that we’ve worked with the software for about six months, we can also analyze our internal data to improve our purchasing policy. We can see which cars sold well and at which price, allowing us to re-acquire similar vehicles. Originally we screened the supply via the software, but now we act on its recommendations. That saves a lot of time. We can procure more efficiently and limit margin erosion.
I notice that we now work much faster and more efficiently. Once a vehicle is loaded into the software, you immediately have all the data at your fingertips. You instantly see the market value and your margin on used cars.
Previously we did this in a spreadsheet — it took us hours. Now our sourcing team can check daily whether our inventory is correctly priced and make adjustments immediately if needed.
Since using JP.cars’ software, we’ve been able to clear out our old inventory — it went extremely well. Now with JP.cars, we simply sell faster, with better margins than before.
